Alex Morgan strengthens his championship hopes with a solid performance at Paul Ricard. Hot off the back of his promising podium in Silverstone, the third round saw Alex progress into 4th place in the SEAT León Eurocup championship.
Boosted by encouraging pace in the test sessions, Alex used the raw speed of his SEAT León racer to qualify 3rd for Race One and score 3 extra championship points.
With a podium firmly within his grasp for the second weekend in succession, Alex knew he needed to get off the start line well. After holding 3rd place into turn 1, Alex was hindered by contact between the front running cars ahead, losing a place to Stian Paulsen. When the race had settled down, the pace and set up of his Wolf-Power Racing car allowed Alex to relentlessly chase down his opponent to regain the place by lap 5. Masterfully claiming the final step of the podium, at one of the most famed venues on the calendar.
“Race 1 was another great result for us and it’s always nice to make it onto the podium. Unfortunately In race 2 I couldn’t get p3 on the last few bends but to close that gap down was extremely promising and the points haul for the weekend was really good. The race pace is something I’m really pleased with and we’ll move forward with confidence.”
Scoring the third highest number of points throughout the weekend, Alex feels confident for the challenge ahead:
“I have to thank Wolf Power Racing for all their efforts as the car has been amazing so far. Despite really bad luck in the season opener at Estoril, we’ve bounced back and we’ve made the most of every opportunity.”
Equaling his superb performance from the previous round, Alex Morgan earned 30 points, moving to 4th place in the championship standings. The next round sees the SEAT León Eurocup take its first visit to Mugello, Italy on 16-17th July. Excited to take to a new track, half-Italian Alex strives to push hard to keep the positive momentum going.
