PWR Racing reveals a 600-horse 100% electric STCC prototype, PWR 001, as a first part of collaboration with team partners.
“At the moment, the biggest revolution in the automotive industry is going on since the internal combustion engine and the running belt, and now we are launching our part in this,” says Hans Bååth, project manager for PWR 001 as chairman of STCC AB.
“We have already begun to get used to electric, connected and self-propelled cars to different stages of development. Virtually all car companies have some sort of strategy for how to deal with this on a larger scale. At the same time, technology is far from mature and the need for the development of robust technology is great. Therefore, we choose to take this initiative to work with our partners’ combined expertise and technology in the field. That electric cars have a place in motorsport, of course, we see for sure in the foreseeable future.
Mikaela Åhlin Kottulinsky, who competes for the PWR Racing – SEAT Dealer Team in STCC, has been involved in the development of the electric race car that will be premiere during the STCC final at Mantorp Park on September 22.
“This car is revolutionary to drive. The performance is crazy and it also makes it absolutely wonderful, no one expects an electric car to sound. While we are obviously in the absolute lind of development, potential is huge, this is definitely the right way for future racing in terms of technology, environmental impact and entertainment, “said Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky.
The car has three electric motors running on the rear wheels with just over 600 hp or 450 kilowatt and over 1000 Nm in torque giving performance at 0-100 km / h in less than three seconds and a top speed of 300 km / h.
The batteries consist of over 350 cells that can be fully charged in approximately one hour with a maximum capacity of 15 minutes at maximum power output. The weight of the battery pack is 366 kilos and thanks to its location in the middle of the car with the weight distribution of 44% and 56% behind it, it gives both challenging and entertaining behavior on the track.
“Today we have a concept car for what we see is the future of Scandinavian racing. At the same time, this represents an interesting technical challenge for us and our partners where we will be able to work on new technologies in several areas that are high for the future of motorsport as well as the world in general, “says Daniel Haglöf, partner and driver in PWR Racing.
The team’s partners, Höganäs AB and Skellefteå Kraft, work actively with the project that has already been going on for over a year.
“Not elsewhere, cars are exposed to as extreme use and as extreme traffic as in motor racing. Skellefteå Kraft is at the forefront of renewable energy development and sees this project as an opportunity to accelerate the development of an electrified transport sector, says Hans Kreisel, CEO of Skellefteå Kraft.
“Within Höganäs, we are constantly working on developing applications that are relevant to our customers, and the automotive industry is a vital part of our business. We see collaboration with PWR Racing as an opportunity for new influences and testing of ideas for our future development, such as automotive electrification, “says Fredrik Emilson, CEO of Höganäs.
