Hi just a quick hello. Bought my ex Demo Leon FR ST 184 DSG a week ago today and I’m made up with it. I saved my pocket money for quite a while and it was worth every penny. I’m currently trying to make my way through the owners manual before I start asking questions but the first one I’ll ask is…does anyone think Eco/sport mode works ? TIA I’d post a picture if I knew how !

Welcome. I’m not convinced about the Eco/Sport mode. I’ve got a 1.4FR and it lives permanently in sport mode. I played around a bit when I first bought it but I really couldn’t tell any difference. There was definitely a difference in the throttle response, but if you drive by the noise and how it feels, then you just end up pushing the accelerator harder in Eco mode to get the same effect. Perhaps because of this, using Eco mode seemed to have no perceptible effect on my economy…

It might make more of a difference on the diesels?

mines a 184 TDi ST FR, but a manual.
Eco never gave me any more mpg, but it felt as though the throttle wasn’t quite as responsive, but that could have been my imagination.
In Sport the door lights turn red, which is a GOOD THING, but the sound aktator comes on which is a BAD thing. I had it turned down to 25% with VCDS which is about ok now.
I think the gearchange nanny on the dash display encourages gearchanges at different revs in Sport and Eco, and with a DSG it’ll actually change for you.
Steering heavier in Sport, which is my preference.
So I use Sport and Individual, Individual settings being everything in sport except “engine”, so I don’t get the annoying aktator.
Average MPG is 52, with 60 on a motorway at 75-ish. I’m very happy with that…

But overall it’s a terrific car – glad you’re happy:-)

Cheers for the response guys. I’ve only had a quick play in eco mode and going out shortly to have a go in sport and listen to the fake engine sound. I think that’s hilarious. I’ve also noticed that I’m having to put the wing mirrors in via they key fob rather than it does it automatically like it says it should do in the menus ? Is your car the same boys ? Got any other tips or tricks you can advise of ? Cheers again.

The wing mirrors only fold in remotely if you hold down the lock button. It’s part of the comfort closing along with the windows (and sunroof if you have one). I don’t know why they’ve done that instead of them just folding when you do a simple lock.

But it has the option to auto close when locked in the menu ? Or am I reading it incorrectly ?
Also I’ve got no engine noises in sport mode 🙁 it does very much change the car though. As suspected it holds on the the gear change longer and makes the steering heavier.

I think the auto-close when locked in the menu refers to the comfort closing. It’s all a bit confusing. I think it may be possible to change it using VCDS so that the mirrors fold automatically when locked.

Cheers JohnE. What is VCDS ? Vag come?
Also I’ve been reading the manual online and it says the higher bhp models have launch control ?!?!?! Is this true do you know ?

As far as I know VCDS is the official VagCom. Somebody on here will probably be able to enlighten you more than I can. I don’t know anything about launch control. I’ve only got 140bhp 🙁

Cheers John. Yes I used to have a V5 golf and vag com was used back in them days. “Only 140 bhp” I’ve drove the 1.2T leon and that can shift. Cheers again.
