MemberHas anybody else noticed how now that the rain has started to arrive, most people drive their cars so slowly and are afraid of puddles as if they will dissolve the car? I followed a woman in a Renault Megane Scenic the other day and there was a small amount of water on the road, wouldn’t have even classed it as a puddle, and she braked from doing 50mph to 20mph!!!! :cursing:
Now I know you are supposed to slow down a bit as to drive to the conditions, but come on, it’s only rain. As long as your car is in decent condition and you have a decent set of tyres, not some cheap budget ones for £30-£40 on the car (Just note these are the only thing what hold your car to the road!), you shouldn’t have that many issues. I’m not saying go normal speed of 60 through a deep puddle as that’s just stupid and cause issues or accidents, but you still can drive through it, you are sat in a metal shell with rubber seals and it has been weather tested by the manufacturer so as it doesn’t fall apart as soon as you hit the puddle. 😀
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me who isn’t afraid of driving in the rain and wet conditions or is there a group of us who still enjoy driving no matter what the weather?
If you are one of the majorly over cautious people feel free to object, but if you do, just keep an eye on who is around and behind you as it may be me about to overtake! :LOL:November 22, 2009 at 10:21 pm #3907ToRo
MemberTo be fair, when I see big puddles I slow down!
I was on the M3 once coming from London, peeing it down with rain, and I aquaplaned on a bit of water, kept going and looked in my rearview mirror, saw a car in the same lane as me (middle) hit the puddle, spin out and end up facing on coming traffice in the fast lane!
Not sure if it got hit or not, I think – or rather hope it didn’t!

ModeratorIf i see a big puddle and theres nothing on the other side of the road i just go round it , If there is something on the other side of the road then i slow down
Tbh generally today people dont want to go over 40mph in 60mph zones , Nothing worse that following someone doing 40 and then still brakes for corners that could be taken at 60
What also really annoys me is when people say to me what did you spend that much on tyres and brakes , then they say i went and bought 20 quid tyres.
My response is well if you needed heart surgery and youd got 2 options , a free operation which was going to be bodged or an expensive one which was going to be completed properly which would you choose? and then i say well dont trust your life on cr4p tyres then :good:

MemberExactly. I don’t think people are prepared for this poor weather or know how to cope with it. As I said, I’ll slow down for the big puddles and avoid them if possible, but not stop, wait for it to dry up, then carry on, that really takes the biscuit!
Icey weather is just the same, as long as you drive steady and slow using the gears etc, then really there won’t be many problems. I saw someone once driving along the A31 (Hogs Back) when it was icey, first thing I noticed was them driving on the packed down snow already instead of the fresh stuff, then brake and went completely sideways, which just made m ease off the throttle, knock it down a gear and slow down towards them. Did have to laugh though as I bet it was a brown trouser moment!November 23, 2009 at 4:33 pm #3912ToRo
MemberThe Hogs Back is a fairly dodgy road at the best of times! Let alone in the snow!

ModeratorNot caused by Bad weather but………. i think i saw the most unbelievable thing today well ive never seen it before
Was travelling to my new office today , 3hour journey to Milton Keynes (After a night shift  ) , Gets of the M1 and heading towards MK , i notice up infront a dark blue BMW 1 series that was breaking heavily for a roundabout when the lights where on green  said to me mate wtf is he doing .
Anyway once again at every roundabout on go the brakes , so i said maybe hes new to the area aswell , Not that i was breaking at the roundaboutsThe we enter a dead straight stretch of road which has got maybe 15 roundabouts on it , Every one is just straight across , Im on the outside lane (dual lane) and hes up infront on the inside , All of a sudden i see his break lights on again , Theres nothing even on the roundabout  and he comes to a complete standstill
As we aproach i had a glance incase he or she was having a hear attack or summit , Instead hes having a phone coversation  , Blew me horn and shook me head but i dont think he got the message
