MemberHelp !!!!!! My 2001 1.6s leon has developed the following faults – dash lights staying on when ignition key is removed , fuel gauge fluctuating with light and warning beep sounding when car turns a corner , speedo does not work for long periods of time, then works but has a mind of its own !!!!! All these problems happened after the car was parked outside and not driven for 6 weeks, the weather was extremely wet , also found both rear footwells to be full of water but no signs of where the water is entering the car. Could these problems all be related ???? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

MemberThe water to the footwells could be caused by drainage holes being blocked, check around the door and seals.
These problems could all be linked, maybe water has gotten into the fuse box and shorted out a couple of fuses! Best person to speak to might be SEAT Adam, as he knows more about car engines etc. He should be on soon mate!
On another note, welcome to the forum!

Moderatori know door seal leaks are very common on LCR’s so i would imagine its the same for the LC’s and standard Leons,
The Floor bungs could also be causing it as my friends was missing 3-4 of his when we had the carpet up

MemberHi mate. Welcome to the forum.
Firstly, water in the rear footwells, I reckon you may have rear door weather seals leaking. The clear plastic sheet behind the door card probably needs sealing to the door. Common fault on most Seat Leon’s and Skoda Octavia’s. Just take the door card off and check the weather strip. Reseal it with silicone, should be ok. Also check the rubber door seal along the bottom of the door, these are common covering up the drain holes in the door. Best trim them and check the drain holes aren’t blocked.
Dash faults, Sounds as if there maybe water ingress behind the dash. The ignition should always have a live feed, and if it has got damp linking the terminals the power will conduct to them. Also the back of the gauges and dash may have moisture on them. Looking at a wiring diagram for a Mk4 Golf, the instrument panel looks like a one piece unit which would explain a lot. Sounds like it may need drying out and maybe pulling some of the dash out to check it. Also check the bottom corners of the screen and along the scuttel panel, (wiper panel), as leaves will get behind there and clog up the route for water to leave the screen area and the water will find another way of coming out, in this case into your car. Remove the bonnet seal along the back of the engine bay, lift the panel slightly and have a look. I removed a good three handfuls of compost from mine last week when I checked mine. Worth a look there. Let us know how you get on.December 6, 2009 at 5:10 pm #3998July 22, 2011 at 12:29 pm #4924Walnut42

MemberHi I’ve just bought an 01 Leon 90bhp and I have the dreaded disco dash, was it all down to damp? Can’t get to the bottom of it at all, thanks Jonty

MemberCould all be linked to a corroded earth wire as all the circuits that the faults occur in have to be earthier so could be a faulty earth,

MemberHi just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts, my front wells are soaking when it rains but rear ones fine, boot wet through, have released water under spare tyre and tyre rim was rusty.
Also battery lamp started flashing while doing 50 for about 1 minute,
any ideas as it my first Seat Leon and I love it.

Participantyoull have water coming in most likely through the door seals or possibly dripping down through the pollen filter. is the boot wet after its been raining? or when you use the rear washer?

MemberSame here, I have really wet front wells, cant see any sign of leaks except when open front doors small puddles stand on foot sill.
Also started spreading to rear and boot exactly same as person above.
Love my Leon but she smelling very damp now.
Have bought tube of silicone, but will this be enough?
Thanks

Jonty, This fault is a nightmare. I’ve checked:
– Earth under battery
– Earth under pollen filter
– Inside of doors for damp/rust
– Stripped and tested ignition switch (yes you remove the steering wheel for this one!)
– Pulled out the Convenience Unit
– Pulled out the Toad Alarm/Immobiliser
– Pulled out the dashboard and checked circuit for damp/corrosionThere is a company on Bradford claiming they fix this by doing something to repair the dashboard, so does this mean its really a faulty dash circuit?
If you find anything out please post!M.

Yeah it should be fine. You have to take off the door cards and then undo the metal carrier. Remove the old seal or do what I did and over do the sealant as it’s quicker and sometimes I’m lazy!!! Put it back together and let it dry. Should be fine.
