InactiveHi all
Ordered new Leon 1.4 tsi se in November for delivery March 2014. I have a mark 6 Golf at present which I have been very happy with but feel the mark 3 Leon is a much more striking car. I have specced it up a bit as I was really interested in the FR but found the suspension too hard for my old bones :rolleyes:Can you turn off the drls on the new Leon as you can on the Golf by using the full beam/ indicator stalk or does it have to be done with vagcom??. Your replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

Participantcongrats on the new purchase and I think you will enjoy the car although may feel similar to the Golf you have already, but styling is bit more edgy on the Leon 🙂
As far as I know you can’t disable the dtrl yourself but can through vagcom, but would need to enable them again before first MOT.I really like the look of the dtrl but they can be a bit of a pain especially this time of year.
Say you are waiting for someone at night and it’s a bit chilly so you start the car up to get the heaters going and you can’t turn the dtrl off and they are very bright in the dark, almost main beam bright being LED’s.Only a minor gripe but I wish I could choose times to turn them off 🙂

InactiveThanks for info that’s a pity that you need vagcom to disable them. I disabled the drls on my Golf and car sailed through its MOT on both occasions one main dealer other VW specialist

InactiveI gave the FR a good road test and as we have a lot of uneven /potholed roads in this town and I felt every jolt twinge etc etc. It was my first choice of car having tried many test drives of vag group cars but the comfort suspension of the Leon Se won in the end. Feeling my age I’m afraid.

ParticipantI assume and believe I heard that, If dtrl are fitted, then need to be working but I could be talking tosh
I think that with vagcom, you can permanently disable them or have them come on with the switch as sidelights, will look into it 🙂I think the ride is a good balance with the FR but not as soft as some on uneven roads.
Feels soft enough for me coming from a lowered 306 Gti :pDecember 21, 2013 at 9:54 pm #7054Anonymous
InactiveThink it is the case that although it is an eu directive that all new cars must be fitted with drls it is not law in uk yet that they must be used so you can switch them off and pass mot.
Thanks for looking into the vagcom/ sidelight option

InactiveI find the FR ride firm but comfortable with the car in Normal mode, it is a bit hard in Sport, so i generally leave sport for the motorways at the moment, and having broken ribs isn’t helping, but i find the seats are very supportive and stop me sliding about.

Just the thought of going over the cassie blocks and potholes we have here with broken ribs sends a shiveŕ down my spine. Even with nice soft suspension I would find that daunting. I also found the seats very comfortable and supportive in the FR but my poor better half found it difficult to get over the bolsters as she has arthritis though she sits on a raised pad in the golf to give her extra height so that would have solved that problem in the FR………. now.
