    Hi all,

After 117k happy miles I’ve just traded in the my Mk2 for a Mk3 FR. All fantastic, however I have a media question. I’m trying to get an external usb drive attached with all my music files on. Connections via usb are all fine, attaching the drive within the glove box. However when I press the media button on the dash it says there’s nothing there.

Any ideas? I would have thought any drive would work (I think it’s a Western Digital 1TB drive with mp3 files).

    Thanks.

I would assume that an external HDD needs power like any drive would unless it receives it’s power through the USB cable itself which I think is unlikely.
The capacity of the drive is probably too big to read as well.

I would just get some 32Gb SD cards or USB sticks and do it that way and still holds plenty of music 🙂
Not sure if 64Gb would be compatible.

A standard platter drive will also get hot without cooling, so if you are set on a hard drive, if possible, I would be using a SSD as a standard hard drive will not like all those bumps in our roads either.

    Hi
don’t know if you sorted this, as it’s quite old, but I bought a Leon with SD and USB connections, and sometimes my usb stick doesn’t register. It might be the connector. I take it off and refit it firmly (it’s a tight fit anyway) and off it goes.
I’d assumed it was the cheapo sandisk Cruzer i’d bought, rather than the connector cable.
    Worth reseating both, I’d suggest.

having mis-read the SD card capacity as 2GB and not the FOLDER size as 2GB max, I got a couple of 2GB cards, but they do pack an awful lot of music. I can always pass them on to my daughter for her Golf MkV:-)
I don’t think I’ve got 32GB worth on the PC even.
possibly got that much on the vinyl in the loft…..
