ParticipantHi all,
I have bought a seat Leon 1.8 tsi (2014).
Iv never had a good experience buying second hand (last few cars all went wrong). Which is why I bought this one with 4000 miles on the clock..
However it doesn’t feel as fast as it should. I’m used to driving lower HP diesels (a3 tdi, bora TDI etc) which at times feel as they pull faster than the Leon.
Is there much that can go wrong on a car this new? I have the torque app on my phone which has no faults logged. Although I’m not too sure the app is entirely correct as Max boost was around 12 psi..
Any thoughts\similar experiences or knowledge about this would be much appreciated!
Many thanks

ParticipantHi, are you finding it feels slower accelerating from standstill or less responsive on the move?. If you are used to diesels you will find the in gear accelerating slower as you are used to more torque.

ParticipantMostly from a standstill, but then where is the lower made up from ?
I know the diesels have more torque but they were never more than 130bhp and the Leon should be 180…

ParticipantIt should accelerate much better from standstill than the other cars you mention.
Acceleration from standstill will of course be proportionate to the power output (BHP) when comparing like for like cars. However, in the real world of day to day driving, the higher torque of a diesel, means more power (Nm) on the move without having to change down a gear when overtaking on a motorway for instance. The Leon you have has 250Nm torque, but you are used to about 310 Nm with your previous car.
Perhaps you have not got used to driving a petrol again as they do need to be revved higher and held longer between gears to get the most out of them.

ParticipantOkay that makes sense thank you!
Out of curiosity what usually goes wrong with these Leon’s? It’s done nearly 6000 miles so I’m thinking nothing can go wrong at this point…
Also with these cars if something was not quite right would it show up as a fault? I.e leaks in the pipes etc..
Also wanted to mention that the highest boost figure I had was 12 psi.. This seems abit low? Should be around 15-17?
Thanks for all your help!

ParticipantHow are you measuring boost? Should be 8 to 9 psi so may not be accurate.
I don’t know what faults are common with these Leons. I have had a 5 door FR TDI
2.0 (184) from new for 2 years with no mechanical problems. However, be warned that if you have a dealer sticker in rear window, don’t remove it as it can damage the aerial filament. I took my sticker off and the radio went off when I put on rear window heater.
Had to have new window and had a real battle to get dealer to accept responsibility as the hand book says “do not put stickers on rear window”.
I had to pay out, but got refund after I complained to head office and put details on their facebook page.

ParticipantBoost is currently being measured by the torque pro app on my phone and an obd 2 interface…
There are allot of similar engines around boosting higher than 9, would have thought it should be a little higher but maybe not, I cant seem to find any paramters online to compare my real time data to with what manufacturers paramters..
As for the window thank you! I shall leave it where it is…
Thanks
