Hi folks,

Took delivery of my new Leon FR last Wednesday evening and have already put 800 miles on it. Thought I’d introduce myself!

I’ve always had ‘retro’ cars up until now, decided I wanted comfort, speed, mod cons and a warranty so I bought this.

Very impressed so far! Love the looks (splashed out for the Alor Blue and 18″ Performance Alloys).

Out of interest: my dealer didn’t mention anything about wearing the engine in, but I’ve been (mostly) good. Is bedding in engines a thing of the past, or am I likely to break things if I ‘race’ the engine?

various and contradictory views on running in.
some (mainly bikers) recommend a bedding in blast at full throttle to avoid gradual scoring of rings.
others (including me) opt for a gradual approach, and increase engine load gradually over 1500 or so miles.
Personally I keep below 4000rpm until the oils warmed up to 50+ degrees as well, but I’m just a cautious bloke with his own money tied up in the car. Might feel different if it was a lease or company car:-)
Think the 1.4ACT is a great package. If I’d known a year ago how diesel was going to be demonised and penalised I’d have gone petrol…..

When I bought my 1.4TSI SC FR last year I looked at the hand book tto see if it needed running in. The only thing I found was to do it with the gradual approach as Andrew suggests. Keep the revs down to about 3000 revs untill you had done about 1500 miles. Then you can put your foot down. I remeber some 30 years ago I had a new Saab 900i to replace my 6 month old saab written off in a Accident and was going on holiday towing a caravan and picked the car up the day before i was going. The Deler told me to keep the revs down below 3000 and not let it labour in any gear for 1000 miles. Now I new from my earlier Saab that if I came to any hills i would need to change down and go up in 3rd gear and found that it kept the revs below 3000 revs. So I was not worried about the runnin in period. I found that at the end of the journey I had done a 1000 miles and then spent the next day looking fdor a Saab garage to get the 1st service done. That car turned out to be so well run in it never gave any probs. So back to my Leon Sc 1.4 TSi. As it was such fun to drive I soon had run it in and could enjoy it. I have never had such enjoyment driving a Car that put a smile on my face each time I drive her. Hope you enjoy your new car
