Noisy wipers
ParticipantI have a 2015 Seat Leon Estate TSI SE 1.4 which has a really irritating loud noise when the drivers side wiper blade changes direction at the top of its wipe, apparently standard on these cars, but sounds as if someone is banging on the roof in that front corner. It drives me bonkers!!!! Doesn’t matter if it’s light or heavy rain, can still be heard at 70 mph with the radio on. Does anyone else have the same problem?

ParticipantAfter getting fobbed off by Seat UK telling us that it was standard on that model, we bought some Bosch wiper blades from Ebay & hey presto the noise has gone ! To be fair to Seat they were keen to know what we had done.
Hope this helps.

ParticipantMany thanks for the tip. My car went into the garage today as the emission warning light had come on twice (I’ve had the car for a week now) and was told that it was not a good idea to drive it until more investigation was done. This will obviously be in the New Year now. After this has been fixed then they can look at the wiper problem. I’ll keep you posted on deveopments.
I have seriously considered handing the car back as it clearly had no preparation whatsover, in fact the tyre pressure warning light came on during the test drive! Faulty valve apparently. I have another three weeks to make up my mind…December 24, 2015 at 7:36 pm #14600paul fisher
ParticipantI also consider the wiper blade/blades to be noisier than expected with quite a ‘clunk’. However, I suppose I have not been overly bothered as my previous car was a VW Polo and if memory serves me that cars blades could well have been deemed as on the noisy side of the spectrum. Then before that car I had a Vauxhall Corsa and the blade/blades were ‘really’ noisy. I was interested to read that you fixed the problem with a change of wiper blade brand.

ParticipantHello,
I persuaded the garage to fit new wiper blades and these have improved matters. I think to fully solve the problem the windscreen needs a really good clean and I’m going to try Autoglym’s Fastglass.January 3, 2016 at 7:27 pm #14625Noisy wipers
ParticipantHi Flybynight I hope this works for you, unfortunately it didn’t for us, we even had a complete replacement wiper assembly, we tried thoroughly cleaning the glass as well. If you watch the driver side wiper blade when its in action, the noise comes from the change of direction of the blade which leads me to think that it is the rubber compound of the blade that is at fault. As I have previously said we changed the drivers side blade to a Bosch and we now have silent wipers as they should be.
Best of luck

Participantnever noticed any noise on mie with standard wipers, but I’d had the Lifeshine treatment which includes windscreen as well. I’ve had noisy wipers before on cars and it’s ALWAYS been a combination of dirty wipers /screen or both. Wax on the blades is always judder-inducing. Worth using some meths or neat washer fluid.
failing that new blades! I’ve used Bosch on my wifes saab and daughters golf and they’ve been good. Michelin Stealth are always supposed to be ace too…. -
