Tim and Tom speak alike, move alike and even have the same hair cut. They are absolutely identical and they also share their passion for racing, although it is Tom who is a regular in the championship, while Tim won the right to take part in Brno with his good results in the first SEAT León Eurocup meeting in Valencia.
Born in Naarden (The Netherlands) on April 5, 1972, Tim and Tom were born into a family of motor sports fans. Tom managed to stand out earlier and became a well-known driver in his country winning the Dutch Formula Ford 1600 Championship in 1993, followed by the Japanese Formula 3 series in 1997 and a further Japanese Formula series in 1999. He has been taking part in the World Touring Car Championship since 2005, always with SEAT and has contested 94 races taking one victory and three podium finishes, as well as an overall win of the independent drivers’ class in 2008.
“At Valencia, I won the independents’ class for the first time this season and I am now also leading the points’ standings in this championship. The characteristics of the Brno circuit aren’t ideal for us, but of course, I will do my utmost. Competing in one race together with Tim is just great!”
Tim has been racing Dutch series until his debut in the SEAT León Eurocup in 2008. He is racing the series again this year achieving excellent results as shown by his presence in Brno. He is obviously happy to be racing with his brother and to be at the wheel of a different car as usual: “Compared to the SEAT Leon from the Eurocup, the main differences in the WTCC car are a quicker gearshift, more precise steering and better balance. Moreover, driving with tyres that have been warmed up was a new experience for me. You have grip right away, so you can be quick right away!”
They will be racing together in Brno and separately the rest of the season in the Eurocup and the WTCC.
